Thee Legacy provide the sound track to the latest Simba Mapha TVC

Johannesburg, Thursday, 8 December 2016 – The inaugural winners of The Sing Off SA, Durban-based Isicathamiya group, Thee legacy, have collaborated with the iconic South African heritage brand, Simba, by providing the sound track to the latest Simba Mapha TVC with their chart topping hit single Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix), as Simba chips celebrates 60 years.

Thee Legacy’s collaboration with Simba comes shortly after being profiled by Apple Music globally as “Artists To Watch”. This opportunity provides Thee Legacy with a solid foundation to gain traction on the international stage.

Fast becoming the discovery of the year, Thee Legacy has had a strong presence on radio this year with their latest single, Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix), currently topping charts and on high rotation on radio stations such as Metro FM, Ukhozi FM and Thobela FM. This past week, Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) featured at number #8 on the RAMS chart.

You can now hear Thee Legacy’s hit single, Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix), as the sound track to the Simba Mapha TVC which is centered on the joy of sharing. The word ‘Mapha’ is a South African phrase developed in the townships, born out of the humour of young kids meaning to share or to give. Thee Legacy’s Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) is an appropriate soundtrack selection for this campaign as there is much love in the act of sharing.

“The fun new TVC adds a special twist to the Simba Mapha story that South Africans have grown to recognise and emulate,’’ shares Natasha Singh, Marketing Head of Snacks at PepsiCo. “We are also very excited to announce that the TVC showcases an original, fresh, upbeat track from a local rising band. Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) from Thee Legacy is the ideal backdrop to the Mapha narrative, adding contemporary local flavour to Simba’s rich brand story.’’

South Africans were introduced to the Simba Mapha storyline in 2013 and the latest TVC builds on the success of this concept, reiterating the idea that “Some things are better when you Mapha”.

“We have grown up on Simba chips and never imagined that one day we would collaborate with this iconic brand. We are both proud and humbled that our single Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) was selected for the Simba Mapha TVC. We’re looking forward to having all South Africans see the Simba Mapha TVC and relate to the TVC through our music” expresses Thee Legacy.

Wena Wedwa (MusicCraftMAN Mix) can be found on Thee Legacy’s self-titled debut album out now in stores and all major digital platforms. Thee Legacy have crafted a body of work that represents a contemporary take on Isicathamiya for a new millennium – produced by RJ Benjamin and Sam Soweto (of The Soil fame).

Make sure to get your album copy this festive season and enjoy South Africa’s newest five-member band with a fresh local sound that will resonate with all.
